Why I’m Running

Thanks to a historic court order, Salt Lake County is finally united in a single congressional district. For decades, our diverse communities were deliberately split to dilute our collective voice. That era is over. This new map reflects who we are, creating a once-in-a-generation opportunity for bold, progressive leadership that truly understands our community.

My story is rooted in Utah. Born and raised here by Somali immigrant parents, I grew up in a community that cherished service and the belief that when people come together, anything is possible. My career has focused on turning that belief into real change.

Most recently, I served on TikTok’s public policy team, managing the company’s response to political investigations and defending the voices of 180 million Americans—protecting 224,000 jobs and safeguarding thousands of small businesses, including many here in Utah. Earlier, I served as Utah’s government relations director at the American Heart Association. In this role, I secured life-saving CPR training in schools and dispatch centers, while also co-leading the effort to extend postpartum Medicaid coverage from 60 days to a full year.

We are entering a new chapter for our district, and we cannot afford the status quo. I’m running for Congress to ensure that the people of Salt Lake County finally have a representative who doesn't just occupy a seat, but actually does the work.

The Platform

The foundation of a healthy democracy is the principle that every citizen’s voice carries equal weight. Currently, the influx of unlimited corporate and PAC spending creates a barrier between the people and their government, often allowing concentrated wealth to overshadow the needs of our communities. I am committed to advancing a constitutional amendment to restore the integrity of our elections and overturn the legal precedents that have commodified our political process. By limiting the influence of special interests, we ensure that our national direction is determined by the collective will of working people, not by the strategic investments of large donors.

People In, Money Out

We spend more on healthcare than any country on Earth, yet millions remain one accident away from financial ruin. This is a moral failure. Medicare for All guarantees care to every person by eliminating premiums and deductibles, negotiating lower drug prices, and cutting wasteful administrative costs. This is the freedom of comprehensive coverage at a lower cost for everyone. When we prioritize health over profit, we ensure every Utahn has the foundation to live a full, dignified life.

Healthcare Is a Human Right

Tech Accountability & Responsible AI

Innovation must come with accountability. I support strong federal standards that protect people, workers, and democracy. This includes a national privacy law, strong safeguards for children online, environmental standards for data centers, and strict oversight to protect against biased censorship.

The United States must rebalance its priorities, investing in our people and future rather than endless war. Trillions spent on military conflict have come at the expense of education, healthcare, and economic security at home. Opposing genocide is a moral and legal obligation; civilians must never be targeted, starved, or displaced, as we are witnessing in Gaza, Sudan, and the Congo. The U.S. should use its diplomatic, economic, and legal tools to end these atrocities, halt complicity in violations of international law, and hold those responsible accountable.

Foreign Policy

Protecting Our Immigrant Communities

Immigrants are the engine of our economy and the heart of our community. But a just society requires that every person is treated with dignity. We must end government overreach and the targeting of minority communities, ensuring that no neighbor is harassed— regardless of their immigration status or for exercising their right to free speech.

After decades of contribution, our immigrant neighbors are an integral part of the American story. It’s time for an immigration system that reflects our highest values: compassion, stability, and the rule of law for all.

Restoring the American Promise

The American promise is built on a simple premise: if you work hard, you should be able to thrive in the community you call home. But today, that promise is fraying. When a home in Utah costs multiples more than the average salary and childcare rivals a mortgage, we aren't just facing an economic hurdle—we are facing a crisis of equity.

We need homes people can afford, in communities they love. We are in a national housing crisis driven by a shortage of millions of homes. The solution is to increase the supply of affordable housing, protect our neighborhoods from corporate takeovers, and crack down on the predatory rent-fixing schemes that artificially jack up prices for everyone.

Beyond the home, we need childcare that supports families and opportunity. No family should be forced to choose between a paycheck and safe childcare. I am fighting for universal childcare that caps costs and ensures every child has access to high-quality care. When we invest in parents and children, we are building a future where everyone has the freedom to thrive, not just survive.
